Punk and Comics: CXC 2023
The intersection of punk rock and comics goes back almost fifty years, stretching from John Holmstrom’s Punk magazine, first published in 1975, to the presence of Hobie Brown, Spider-Punk, in this year’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse film.
Today, fledgling bands and self-publishing indie cartoonists both take inspiration from punk’s D.I.Y. aesthetic, but what other similarities exist between the two?
Join moderator Fischer and a murderers’ row of artists inspired by punk—Raeghan Buchanan (The Secret History of Black Punk: Record Zero), Derf Backderf (Punk Rock and Trailer Parks), Shelly Bond (Black Crown, Vertigo, Heavy Rotation), and Nate Powell (the upcoming “punk soap opera” Fall Through)—for a discussion of punk, comics, and their enduring affinities.
