A cover of Spooky Scary Skeletons by Andrew Gold.
It's spooky season, so of course I had to do a spooky cover!
The song is a great meme, incredibly well composed, and so many great covers of this song already exist!
However, the one thing I've noticed is that this song and all the covers are comically spooky, and I think it's missing a proper scary element to it. So what better way to make a song spooky with some doom metal and blast beats!
I think doom metal is naturally spooky with a lot of the droning notes/chords, which I thought combined really well with the already existing chords of the original. Towards the end, I thought a shift to a more death metal approach would be fun to add more dynamics and variation to the song, as well as a lot of people just find death metal scary anyway!
This was super fun to arrange and perform, the arpeggios are pretty tricky so nailing them was really fun, and it was really cool to sing really low and explore my vocal range on the other side of the spectrum!
I like to think that this is definitely a more unique cover of the song, and actually feels a bit more scary!
That said, if you didn't like it, some helpful feedback instead of a harsh comment would be greatly appreciated!
And yes, I did do the same facepaint as Johannes Eckerström from the band Avatar - it's about the spookiest thing I thought I could pull off!
