A rock/metal cover of "Burenia" from the video game Metroid Dread.
I've been really excited to play Metroid Dread since it's announcement, since it came out, it's had me hooked!
Metroid music is usually some of my favourite, particularly the classic tracks from the earlier games. However I found this soundtrack quite interesting; it's incredibly well designed and each track fits perfectly with each area and fight, but most tracks are very strange and too atmospheric to do justice in a cover. That said, Burenia is the most the standout area in terms of music despite being probably my least favourite area to explore, which checks out since water levels are always least fun to play but have the best music!
Given the dark and almost evil sound of Metroid music, I knew I had to make this cover super heavy, which contrasts nicely from my recent acoustic and more proggy covers!
I mostly stuck to the chord progression in the original, but had some fun with it, by adding chugs and used some dissonance to help accent some of the extended spooky chords, and added variations on the main 'riff' in the intro. One thing I did notice, was that the spooky section in the original (where it breaks away from the main idea) outlined some minor chords underneath, which I thought would be perfect for some black metal/death metal riffs and blast beats!
I had a lot of fun with this cover, coming up with tons of variations and different rhythmic ideas, so I hopefully I didn't stray too far from the original, and hope you enjoy this heavy take on the song!
