Watching the UFL on Fox is really interesting for those of us that like to know how the hamburger is made. I was shooting a few games down in Birmingham when I started making pictures of this guy all rigged up, shooting the Sony FX6 with the Sony 16-35mm f/2.8GMII. This guy is on the field while the ball is in play, he shoots huddles, gets really close to the action and tries not to get run over. It's a fascinating bit of kit that he wears. This is called the "GEM CAM" in the UFL parlance. After spending a lifetime behind the dotted line, its cool to watch this guy work where he has total access. If anyone knows him, I'd love to talk to him about this setup and about close calls he may have had during games.

$Shooting H.S. Football with Sony 300GM and 135GM lenses with the Sony A9III cameras. The 70-200mm f/2.8 has long been either the primary lens people use to shoot football under lights either alone, or as a companion to the 300mm or 400mm f/2.8 lenses. But some easy tests showed me the 135mm f/1.8 prime lens might be better on multiple levels. Even when shooting all the way across the end-zone, the 135 wide open blows the background out of focus more than the 200mm f/2.8 look. Because its a prime, there is less to think about for long pass plays that come towards the shooter too less to think about equals point and shoot. This is good for my ADD sensibilities as less to do in a short fraction of time increases my chances for success. Add in the 135s AF speed and a little Pre-capture magic (.01) from the A9IIIs and you can get an old guy to perform without a blue pill.
