Solo backpacking and wild camping trip into the Cairngorm national park.
During the walk I did get some amazing views of ‘The Devils Point’ which I have yet to get to the top of. The Gaelic name supposedly means "Penis of the Demon / The Devils Penis". The English name is a result of a visit to the area by Queen Victoria. She asked her local ghillie, John Brown, to translate the name; to avoid embarrassment he gave a euphemistic answer.
As always walks like this should not be taken lightly, especially in bad weather and good navigation skills and equipment is essential as the weather changes fast and frequently. With very little navigation points in low cloud and mist it would be very easy to become disoriented.
One good thing about the day is that the wind did pick up and put an end to the ‘Midge’ onslaught that had plagued me earlier in the day.
Note that there are very steep drops at the top of ‘Sron Riach’ itself.
Camping was at my usual haunt next to Bob Scott’s bothy and had a good night’s sleep despite the fast flowing river thundering past next to me.
