I have made two attempts to install a softstart module on my Ryobi TSS121 compound miter saw. After the first install, using a generic module from the big reiver store, I realized that the electric brake that is part of the machine was interfering with it. The second attempt I used a Hitachi 371468 that was actually designed specifically for a saw and seemed to be used as a common retrofit; however, I did not find anything where it was used on a machine with an ebrake. This second go worked far better, but there was a delay on the ebrake engaging. I think I figured out why and have a possible 'fix' on order that may result in an update video if it works.
This video also includes three electrical diagrams I developed tracing out the circuit of this machine and including the soft start module. This should be applicable to other machines that have a similar ebrake. Just be cognizant that there can be other brake configurations and all may not be applicable.
My thanks to @mainejason that put together a great video on installing the Hitachi module in a machine without an ebrake, this was a great stepping stone in my process for figuring out how to modify may machine!
