In early August 2015 I took a grand 8 day pack goat trip into the Snowy Range in south Wyoming, up by Mutt and Jeff Lakes. One night a wild, brief snow storm hit, for which I was totally unprepared. I had known before going in that the weather would improve after that, so I wasn't worried, but it was a bit more than I'd bargained for! Up to this point I had been a totally fair-weather camper, but this experience showed me how incredible winter camping can be.
And, the time I've REALLY been in serious weather trouble (bad hail and deep, wet snow and really soaked with no hope for dry wood--) was about three miles from here, also in mid-August, shorts and t-shirt time. This country is famous for these "stronger-than-predicted" storms. Equally frightening are the thunder storms, in which it seems that every year some one gets zapped.... I guess I prefer the snow.... This is shot, as you can tell, on the world's CHEAPEST, worst camera. Sorry! And sorry about the r missing from "sharing." Gah!
