As previously established, the newly discovered tech 180 Turn Break-out allows breaking out of traversal animations. If you examine some item from your inventory or open the map during a traversal animation, you also break out of this action afterwards, allowing you to move while James is holding an item. While this looks funny, the animation where James puts away the item he is holding is a subtle yet unique interaction in its own right which can cause new break-outs that were unavailable with 180 Turn Break-out alone. This video focuses on breaking out of ladders.
(To note, this new tech (Put Away Break-out?) can be done with any item, but map is the most convenient for two reasons: 1, you can access it without having to open the menu. 2, the map can be closed quite easily using the 'map' button whereas normal items have to be closed with 'back', which on controller by default conflicts with 'evade' and has to be circumvented by changing the control scheme.)
0:00 - Setting things up. I use a 180 Turn Break-out to break out of map holding.
0:21 - While near a ladder, put away the map and activate the ladder prompt. Done without any other input, this first causes a short delay where the map still shows in James' hands for about 7 seconds before you gain control on the ladder. (I call this the "put away failsafe".)
After regaining control, you are able to do ground attacks on ladder... kind of. James doesn't really have a lot of animations, but he pivots in place and slightly detaches from the ladder. In this weaker version of the break-out, camera control is limited - both James and camera can only rotate about 45 degrees to left or right.
0:58 - Doing a stronger ladder break-out is possible if you evade or attack during the very first part of the animation as James begins climbing it at a certain timing. James may become displaced from the ladder (especially when done from the top). You can also rotate the camera and James freely 360 degrees. Climbing to the top of a ladder while facing away from it causes a freefall.
1:40 - An example of pivoting away from the ladder so that James can climb inside a wall. This can leave you stranded out of bounds.
2:32 - Aiming and shooting is also possible on a ladder, although the gun animations behave a bit strangely. The handgun cannot be reloaded even though the animation plays all the way through. Also, you can only shoot one bullet at a time with the shotgun before it gets stuck in a pumping motion.
3:14 - A bonus clip of some other rare stuff which got captured while filming these clips. The main takeaways here are: 1, item holding combines with ladder climbing seamlessly. 2, if "put away failsafe" activates and you then leave the ladder, James stays in that state even while on foot. The camera is stuck in an unusual spot and James' model is also displaced (like always when checking the map), allowing a peek right inside his head.
