The rows of magnets repelling each other all have same polarity. This demonstrates that within a magnet there is always tension, in the sense that the magnetism tries to break up the magnet. Due to this force, magnetized materials are (somewhat) weaker in strength and more prone to be damaged then the same materials when not magnetized.
