Despite Shadow & Black Doom's psychotic attack against the President, he miraculous survived the ordeal.
The GUN Commander was able to bring the President to his headquarters, allowing him to rest while also confirming to him that all of Central City's citizens were safely evacuated.
They were both then reported that the Black Arms were now approaching the GUN Fortress, and that Shadow was among them. The Commander wanted his troops to prepare for him their strongest weapon: the prototype "Diablon" mech.
He was ready to finally get his revenge on that black hedgehog...
Meanwhile... said black hedgehog remembered Professor Gerald's words, how he was counting on him. From there. Shadow decided there was just one thing left to do...

It takes a bit of a while to reach both mission characters starting out in this stage, one longer than the other. I like the music, though.
Here are GUN Fortress' two possible missions:
- Dark Mission: Help Black Doom destroy the 3 cores of the base. He says there's only one, but there's actually three.
- Hero Mission: Track down the 6th Chaos Emerald with Rouge. In other words, get to the Goal Ring.
For now, I take on the Dark Mission.
Again, there are three cores to take down. They each easily have their dedicated rooms as you go through the stage. So you can't miss them, and if you did, you're gonna have to backtrack.
There will be quite a lot of firepower around you for you to use to destroy said cores, too. One spot right under the core will just constantly spawn in GUN robots for you to destroy and take their weapons. OR you can use a turret, instead.
For how late this stage is, as well as how evil you have to be to reach it, this Dark Mission can be the most evil one, yet, because as Black Doom said, himself, the GUN Fortress is humanity's last defense!
