Castlevania: Circle of the Moon was a slightly unusual game to start the Game Boy Advance off with. This second entry feels more traditional in some cases while having some of its own quirks.
----------

As far as the timeline goes, Harmony of Dissonance is the distant followup to Simon's Quest. It takes place fifty years after the end of Castlevania II, where Simon Belmont gathered fragments of Dracula's body together in order to revive him... just to kill him again in order to lift the curse he placed on him in their first encounter.

Harmony of Dissonance instead focuses on his grandson, Juste Belmont. A very powerful Belmont thanks to his expertise in spellbook magic.

One time, Juste's friend, Maxim Kischine, after a two year training period, returned to Juste with wounds all over his body. He had reported to him that another one of their friends, Lydie Erlanger, was kidnapped!

Together, Maxim lead Juste to a castle, the place that he believe that Lydie was kidnapped to. A castle that may very well belong to Dracula...

Allowing Maxim to heal his wounds, and after a massive enemy encounter, Juste sets out through this mysterious castle to look for Lydie and whatever the monsters that lurk inside may have planned for her...

Just like in Circle of the Moon, your character is a whip user. He IS an actual Belmont this time, after all.

Though, using his whip in the air isn't as loose as it was in Circle of the Moon. He keeps it thrown out for a while and you can't really change your movement during this.

Since this is a post-Symphony of the Night game, the whole game is a non-linear Metroidvania sprawl. Keep leveling Juste up, gather different equipment, and search for permanent upgrades to make him stronger and give him new abilities that will let you go further through the castle.

One of these kind of permanent upgrades are Relics, such as the Soul Orb which will let you see how much damage you dealt to an enemy by the numbers.

I don't show it here, but he can also dash. L Button to dash left, and R Button to dash right. It doesn't matter which way he's facing with each button.

Subweapons are still here, too, and they will consume your Hearts, as usual. If you can find Spellbooks, though, you can merge them with the Subweapons to create special attacks that instead consume MP.

Lastly, remember that Save Points are your friend and will recover all of your HP and MP. It's pretty cheeky that they look just like Symphony's in this game, though.
