This year's Severn Valley Railway spring steam gala would see 10 locomotives in steam made up of mainly the homefleet. This year would see with just the three visiting locos. The main star attraction would be B.R 71000 Duke Of Gloucester, the recently returned powerhouse would make it's return after spending last year on test. The other two visitors in the form of Port Of Par 'Judy' and LMS Pug 11243 were on the smaller scale which is a bit of an understatement and due to their size and power output the pair were restricted to short hop local trains in a top and tail formation between Kidderminster and Bewdley. It was hoped that Great Western Large Prairie 4150 would the make the gala but unfortunately the loco wasn't able to take part, though we're told the tank engine is all but complete except a few minor hurdles left.
Action is shot over three days with nine out ten locos featured. Unfortunately GWR 1450 failed on the Friday so I wasn't able to capture it. The gala timekeeping for the first two and half days was superb. The weather was what you typically expect in April, a bit of everything !
In terms of locos, 71000 looked the business, though due it's sheer power it had to be reigned in. The two little visitors put on a good show on the local runs and people seemed to like them, though not my cup of tea ! The homefeet all performed well, especially 813 and 7802 Bradley Manor. So, another good gala from the Severn Valley Railway and we can now look forward to the summer and autumn galas !
