LMS 6233 'Duchess Of Sutherland' makes her full return to mainline duties after a lengthy period of downtime due the Covid pandemic. This is the first time since February 2020 that the Duchess has hauled any steam specials.
We catch the Lady in Red hauling the Midland Bristolian from Derby to Bristol as the class 8 loco is seen first at a damp Wynchor Junction making good headway with a great steam trail following on behind. A few miles further up the line we see the Duchess making a fine sweeping pass through Elford on the outskirts of Tamworth.
Timings were tight and we would have to get our foot down if were to catch another glimpse the big red machine, our sat nav had as arriving 8 minutes before it was due, thankfully it dropped a few more minutes and we were able to get set up in time to see her race through Ashchurch at 75mph ! Stirring stuff and with a great whistle to boot ! The return leg is seen at Willington with the draincock on the Duchess in full voice !
