Harold Rhodes (December 28, 1910 – December 17, 2000)
Rhodes was the inventor of the Army Air Corps Piano, the Pre-piano and the Rhodes piano. The latter generates sound using keys and hammers in the same manner as an acoustic piano, but the hammers strike thin metal rods of varied length, connected to tonebars, which are then amplified via an electromagnetic pickup.
CBS oversaw mass production of the Rhodes piano in the 1970s, and it was used extensively through the decade, particularly in jazz, pop and soul music.
SEVERINO FILHO
Filho and his brother Ismael were members of the group 'Os Cariocas'. Os Cariocas was (is) a Brazilian popular music band. The band was first founded in 1942 by Ismael Neto, and continues to perform today (with new members). Filho is known for his work on Apolônio Brasil, Campeão da Alegria (2003), Quando as Mulheres Paqueram and Três Colegas de Batina (1962).
CIDADE MARAVILHOSA
Cidade maravilhosa ( Marvelous City) is a song that was written and composed by André Filho and arranged by Silva Sobreira for the Rio de Janeiro carnival in 1935. It has since become the anthem for the city of Rio de Janeiro. In the same year, Aurora Miranda recorded a vocal version of the song that became extremely popular.
The name of Rio, however, does not appear in the song. Cidade Maravilhosa as a nickname for the city of Rio de Janeiro was coined by the writer Coelho Neto from the north-eastern Brazilian state of Maranhão as a tribute to the city's natural beauty.

"The" Rio de Janeiro carnival song since 1935 (!) this famous anthem has been covered by an array of artists, from Carmen Miranda to Ray Conniff. This version from 1960, by Severano Filho combines some of the original Brazilian sound elements with some of the typical (American) big band elements. The result is an entertaining arrangement that does justice to the warm atmosphere of the Brazilian carnival. Enjoy !
