ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE
In this chamber ballet, there are no tricks and no demonstration of technical wonders. As there are no intrigues provided for by the plot, no decorations that determine the place and time of the action. Only six dancers, the pianist at the instrument on stage and the crystal lace of the dance, woven from nuances - emotional and plastic. Shades of moods are drawn with watercolors of melting poses and steps, responsive to every note of Scarlatti. Although the composer called his sonatas exercises for the development of the technique of playing the harpsichord and slyly advised not to seek depth in them, the choreographer Alexei Ratmansky heard in his compositions the intonations of emotional conversations - youthfully carefree and ironic, alarming and dramatic, but without a pool of passions. Putting them into the language of dance, Ratmansky called on the artists to preserve the ceremoniality of aristocratic dialogue. Just as in the 18th century, court etiquette hardly allowed for raising the voice in conversation, and Scarlatti worked at the royal court, so in the choreography emotional excitement is reliably hidden by the grace of the pas. However, through the etiquette restraint and the mathematical clarity of the composition, labyrinths of feelings inevitably shine through.
