We decided that a composting toilet was our best off-grid option to keep the whole family happy. it works with a regular outlet or, as in my case, with a 12-volt battery and a solar drip charge. I did not have to add a drain field I just have to remove the front receptacle when full of urine and find an appropriate place to dump it. I can use the compost on my trees. I did not like the chemicals used in my previous toilet and my family was not a huge fan of the compact design of the old unit.
After setting it up it should run on its own. I have not used it long enough to provide any real details about how often the compost must be emptied. That will come in a later video.
The unit is not cheap but you are buying convenient and ecological quality. So far I am impressed.
