Introducing … Sesame Snaps: Lucy Trodd
“I’m Lucy Trodd, a Folkestone-based writer and performer working out of my shed. For the last 13 years I’ve also had a career specialising in improvisation (I’m a founder member of Olivier award-winning troupe Showstopper!). In lockdown I filmed a taster for my sitcom, set in Folkestone. I’ve had 2 series on BBC Radio 4 called “Well Done You” (a mixture of absurd characters, sketches and songs) which I co-wrote. I’m a sea swimmer, an adult ballet dancer and a mum. I love the creative folk and projects in our beautiful town- I feel incredibly lucky to be nurtured and have the opportunity through the seed fund to explore my ideas in a theatrical environment.”
“A diary-based one-woman show, set in the character-rich world of the live DJ and jazz music scene in the late 90s. It’s an exploration of the emotional highs of the dance floor, the community you find often by random encounters and a story of self-discovery. How do we recapture those feelings we loved and found so easily in our 20s? How do we feel those highs and random interactions with strangers? To share in a sacred global musical connection. A communion. A gathering with no phones or selfies. I think we’ll need a bit of that after this pandemic.”

Open Sesame Seed offers seed funding to artists and creatives living and working in East Kent. The funding is open to artists and creatives working in the performing arts including theatre, dance, music, sound, circus, comedy, spoken word, film and live art. It is offered alongside time in Folkestone Quarterhouse auditorium with technical support if required.
We caught up with the Seed Fund recipients to see how they’ve been getting on.
