Introducing … Sesame Snaps: Lise Boucon
We spent the day with Lise Boucon who is researching an exploration around dance, movement and the body.
"Dance has always been a way for me to be connected - to myself, to others, and to something larger."
ET APRÈS // AFTERWARDS started by considering the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and how it has put our lives on hold. From that, Lise questioned what could be the "after" - if there is ever going to be an "after"? What changes are we willing to live with and what will that process look like?
The research is bought to the body, how has this made us disconnect from our bodies? Are our bodies under constant observation through aestetic expectations. How have our bodies become hyper-sexualised, objects of consumption? How have our bodies been weaponized and objectified?
"There is something cathartic in my research, stepping probably in what is called 'dance-therapy".
"The question of public space is also really important for me as I think it is not ours anymore - it has become a space we are crossing and passing through, but where we don’t stop, sit, stand, think, dream, speak anymore."
"There is a very important question of re-appropriation in my research; how to appropriate back our bodies and the space we are living in, in order not to be objects anymore but subjects, and so actors in our own lives."

Open Sesame Seed offers seed funding to artists and creatives living and working in East Kent. The funding is open to artists and creatives working in the performing arts including theatre, dance, music, sound, circus, comedy, spoken word, film and live art. It is offered alongside time in Folkestone Quarterhouse auditorium with technical support if required.
We caught up with the Seed Fund recipients to see how they’ve been getting on.
