SR or Set-Reset Latches are basic building blocks for sequential logic circuits. As a sequential logic circuit element, the output, or state of the latch depends not only on the values of the inputs, but also on the current state of the outputs. An analogy of using Start and Stop buttons for controlling a motor is used to help in the understanding of an SR latch.
