The hardest part about this fight is dealing with his insane posture damage. You actually want to let him break your Posture with certain attacks, he'll try to stomp you into a deathblow but you can just dodge it and get some good damage on him.
Otherwise I would recommend using Gokan's Sugar and/or Persimmon. It takes forever for your Posture to recover normally and he's super aggressive. If he breaks your guard with the wrong attack he can combo you to death.
He's basically got infinite Posture until you lower his health so just keep hitting him with Mortal Draw. I would recommend using it the whole fight, Ichimonji is okay for recovering your own posture but he always blocks the second hit. You can land both hits on Whirlwind Slash but Mortal Draw does a lot more damage even if you have no Spirit Emblems and you can use it during most of the same openings.
I held off on using Mortal Draw in the first phase so I could get quick damage in the second phase but it didn't seem to make a huge difference. It was still taking chunks off his health after I ran out of Emblems.
