President Donald Trump is speaking publicly about an extraordinary security operation that saw the Secret Service secretly move him off Air Force One following the NATO Summit in Turkey amid concerns about a potential Iranian threat.
Trump says he followed Secret Service instructions when he left Air Force One, traveled aboard an airport catering truck and boarded a military 757 for the flight from Turkey to England. Some administration officials and reporters continued aboard Air Force One without the press being told that the president had switched aircraft.
According to reporting cited in the package, Iranian operatives allegedly had detailed information about Trump's movements during the summit. The New York Times reported that officials were also concerned about a specific and credible threat involving a shoulder-fired missile potentially targeting Air Force One.
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer is now demanding a congressional briefing, arguing lawmakers should have been informed about the reported threats.
