How much does Beaumont pay its top city officials—and how does that compare with other Texas cities?
6 News Accountable compared Beaumont's latest employee salary roster with municipal salary data reported for Waco and Killeen through the Texas Municipal League.
Beaumont's city manager earns a base salary of $245,000, while the city attorney earns about $214,600 and the communications director earns roughly $129,200. The comparison also examined salaries for Beaumont's police chief, fire chief and public works director.
The data showed Beaumont's city manager and police chief earning less than their counterparts in both comparison cities. Beaumont's public works director earned less than Waco's but about $18,300 more than Killeen's.
The comparison comes as Beaumont works to address a growing budget imbalance, with city officials saying personnel represents a significant portion of spending and expenses are growing faster than revenue.
Important context: Beaumont's salary figures are current as of July 29, 2026, while the Waco and Killeen comparison data is from 2024. Job titles, responsibilities and organizational structures can also differ between cities.
