On today's adventure in central Tennessee, we were on a mission to find one snake, and one snake in particular: the eastern milk snake. And me, with my limited knowledge of eastern milk snakes, thought it would be a fun time hiking around and not seeing much, BUT I WAS WRONG AND WE FOUND SOME MILK SNAKES! As always we hope y'all enjoy this video! :D
Eastern Milk snakes are a kingsnake species found throughout the north/northeastern regions of the United States, as well as some parts of Canada. Tennessee is one of the more southern most parts of this snakes range. They tend to become most active late spring and early fall, most often being seen in the fall along rockwalls hunting for fence lizards, skinks, and shrews. While their colors and behaviors vary greatly based on location, the more "basic" eastern milk snakes tend to have brown and grey banding, with a white/grey belly patterning. These snakes, while not nearly as rare as many other milk snake species, are definitely one of the more uncommon snakes in this region, and I'm glad to have finally found some!
