I've been experimenting with using a Raspberry Pi and an inexpensive webcam as a remote, wireless webcam. This is an experiment running "motion", a Linux based application that does motion detection. I have it configured to automatically load clips to Google Drive, where I can view them from my smart phone. Here's Scrappy, looking out the window (quality is bad because of strong backlighting).
