Here is a video of my first attempt at Manhattan construction. I tacked together the "first transmitter" oscillator from Experimental Methods in RF Design. I had difficulty getting it to oscillate with the 7.040 crystal that I had, but it seems to do pretty well with the color burst crystal I had in my junkbox. I think it might be because I used too little feedback capacitance, but I'll think about it some more.
