Hi friends, thanks for visiting my channel today. I hope I’ve inspired you to try crafting with your Cricut!

In this video, I will create a single page layout measuring 5x8.25 inches, solely with my Cricut. The only physical products in this particular layout are older patterned papers from Simple Stories and Stampin’ Up!

Like all my layouts, I began this layout by designing it (or sketching it, if you will), in Cricut design space before creating it. During cutting, the white cardstock mat got caught up with the blade (classic example of a worn cutting mat), causing it to crumple up. Frustrating, for sure, but is it really destined for the trash?

No! Because the damage was contained to just the top bit of the mat, I decided to try working with it. As it turns out, the photo on this layout (measuring 4.75x3.75 inches), covered it up perfectly. Adding more papers behind it, and finally the base layer, helped to flatten it further. As time goes on, it’ll flatten further inside my mini album. This layout will go into my album as it is- no page protector required.

What is Cricut made in this layout? Well, I feel like it’s rather obvious (😅)- such as the plant images and the journaling- but did you know I also use my Cricut for creating digital patterned papers? The green cardstock mat has a grid pattern in it- created by converting a basic cut image (the grid) to draw, duplicating it and attaching it all together (my OCD kicks in here. I try keeping the grid as square as possible- stretched out and more rectangular shaped irritates me). The entire new image is then centered and attached to a rectangle shape in DS. This method allows the entire image to draw and cut simultaneously.

I also like using my Cricut for converting basic cut images (such as plants, cats and bows) to draw. Generally, I use a fine point black pen for any images I want coloured in. Currently, that pen is an off-brand Cricut compatible pen. After the Cricut has done the work for me, I colour them in with my alcohol markers (I’m partial to Spectrum Noir TriBlend markers).

A great way to add additional colour and interest to your layout is by creating text boxes in a coordinating colour (complimenting your colour scheme), and writing your journaling using different fonts and coloured pens. In this layout, I chose to use two different fonts, alternating the colours with the font style. For example, the scripty font was written with green and dark brown pens. The test of the text was drawn using the same green pen as the title.

Additional notes: the base patterned paper mat measures 4.75x8.25 inches; each mat layered overtop are 0.25 inches square smaller than the base mat. (So, 4.5x8 and 4.25x7.75 inches). The photo was converted to black and white at printing. I print all my photos at home with an Epson EcoTank colour printer.
