The layout I’m sharing today is my last design team project for the season. (We typically break for the summer, then pick up steam again early in autumn). Is there anything better to kick off summer than a layout about summer?! I think not, which is why I chose to document a summer staple here in the prairies: strawberries! 🍓
My Cricut came in very handy as I was designing this layout. I decided early on to focus mainly on embellishing with strawberries-but, I had only one strawberry die cut image in my stash (care of SS Heart Eyes). I wanted more; one measly die cut wasn’t enough. So, I went straight to the image library to look for more strawberries. I was overwhelmed (in a good way) with the return: there’s a lot to choose from! I used two or three strawberry images to create embellishment clusters and accents throughout the layout, then tweaked the images slightly to suit my needs as I went.
How did I tweak the images? First, I decided to convert the seeds from basic cut to draw (I’m referring to the clusters at the top and bottom of my layout). I used a black pen to draw them. Next, the strawberry border behind the title cut in multiple layers (four, to be exact). After the border was cut, the layer that would have served as the seeds was no longer necessary. The holes in the top strawberry layer was too small, leaving the middle layer obsolete. I left the image as is, though in hindsight, I wish I’d chosen to draw the seeds, like I’d done with the other strawberry clusters. Live and learn 🤷♀️
So, when the mood strikes you, or you find that the embellishments you’d like to focus on is sparse, utilize your Cricut to make up the difference. You won’t be sorry!
