In this video, I’ll create a double page hybrid scrapbook layout for Scrapbook Nerd using Simple Stories patterned papers and my Cricut (for the digital components).
This layout is comprised of two different layout styles- one half is a 6x8 pocket page and the other half is a TN inspired layout measuring 5.5x8.25 inches.
The pocket page came together very quickly- three of the four pockets store photos, and the last pocket stores the journal card. I made the card myself, using my paper trimmer to cut the base of the card; I used my Cricut to cut the decorative border from the green patterned paper. The Cricut was also used to draw and cut the floral image. I followed the same process for creating the white cardstock mat with the short phrase written on it.
Creating page 2, the TN size layout, was more involved. It occurred to me that creating a spine that sits outside the decorated portion of the layout would be beneficial. It’s beneficial for two reasons: first, nothing pretty is sacrificed in favour of holes for placement in my album. Secondly, I’ll gain an extra 0.75 inches of space, which means more pretties and space for words.
Here’s how I created the TN layout base: in Cricut DS, I attached two rectangle shapes measuring 4.75x8.25 and 0.75x7.5 inches together using weld. The portion of the new image that measures 7.5 high is the spine- specifically for punching holes in. The rest of the base- the 4.75x8.25 becomes the empty canvas where the layout design goes. How did I not think of this before?! It’s genius, and I’ll utilize this method from now on. That’s my DUH moment of the week 🤪
