In this video, I created a single page 6x8 scrapbook layout using only three basic items: my Cricut, SS Summer Farmhouse, and basic mixed media products. The end result a clean + simple- and super cute- hybrid layout.
I began by adhering yellow polka dot patterned paper to the bottom 1/3 (ish) of the layout base. Adhered over that is a layered basic shape from DS that was cut + drawn with my Cricut. The floral base is (as all the patterned papers and physical products are) Summer Farmhouse. The white layer at the top has a border that was drawn using a pen; the title, subtitle and journaling was also drawn with pens. Finally, I shaded the title in with a Blue Turquoise alcohol marker.
*Note: I have been using Sharpie black ultra fine tip markers for drawing (in Cricut-ese that’s also ‘writing’) recently. I love the bold colour and how smoothly it writes. The only drawback to these pens- and, it’s very minor, IMO- they are not permanent after the ink dries. If you plan to colour with alcohol markers (or other mixed media, such as watercolour paints or ink/re-inkers) the black ink does run a bit. Use caution if you use Sharpies. Slow + steady wins the race.
So far, I’ve covered the first two of the three items I focused on using in this layout. After cutting the sweet little bumblebee and the little flourish that’s following him, I wound up losing the tiny black cardstock circle that made up his eye. I contemplated using an enamel dot, but after a wave of inspiration, I chose to use Black Stickles for his eyeball. I also used the black stickles to bling out his black stripes. Stickles is a great alternative to shimmer brushes- though, I’ll admit, I used my shimmer brush to add another shimmery effect to his wings.
