Today we're tackling irrigation problems before the water reaches the pivot. One of our pump stations wasn't building enough pressure, so we pulled the pump apart to see if something was stuck inside. After a lot of troubleshooting, lifting, and wrestling it back into place, we cleaned out the sump and hoped for the best before the water arrived.
Later, we headed over to a newly rented farm where we're trying to get miles of solid-set pipe laid out. The challenge? Nobody really knows where all the pipe is supposed to go! With multiple pivots running and wheat already showing signs of stress from the drought, we spent the afternoon hauling pipe, setting corners, and trying to get water where it's needed most.
We also talk about current crop conditions, wheat and hay prices starting to improve, and what we're hoping to see happen with potato prices before harvest this fall.
