Unit had an irritating static-like noise that went away when the positive motor terminal was unsoldered. I temporarily held (better to solder this in place even though the voltage is only 9 volts DC) a 100uF electrolytic capacitor in place across the motor terminals--observing polarity. It made no difference. Then I resorted to using the next size up capacitor I had at hand: a 470uF electrolytic capacitor. This actually made somewhat of a difference. The original capacitor in the unit was a 100uF electrolytic capacitor rated at 25 volts, not 200uF as stated in the service manual.. My replacement 470uF capacitor was rated at 35 volts.
