A pair of former Santa Fe C44-9Ws are seen leading westbound BNSF train L-CHI102 into the village of Coal City, Illinois on the gorgeous afternoon of May 26, 2026. This train operates on weekdays from Hodgkins to Galesburg, typically completing additional work along the route at Joliet, Lorenzo and Elwood. This pair of warbonnets look right at home as they travel across the former main line of the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway! In the present day, this route is the BNSF Chillicothe Subdivision - a part of the company's "Southern Transcon" line connecting Chicago and Los Angeles, California.
