Welcome to Ogilvie Transportation Center in downtown Chicago, Illinois! This bustling railroad terminal is a rail enthusiast’s dream come true. A ceaseless stream of scheduled Metra commuter trains flow in and out of OTC around the clock. In addition to the regular passenger trains, you’ll also simultaneously witness non-revenue equipment shuttles and locomotive servicing moves… making it difficult to choose where to point your camera! In this fast-paced half-hour-long compilation, you’ll get a taste of what it’s like to experience a weekday morning rush hour at Ogilvie. Although F59PHI and GP15AC locomotive types make appearances in this video, there’s no question that the EMD F40 reigns supreme on these rails! If you’re among the many worldwide fans of this legendary locomotive, then this video is sure to please. A variety of F40 variants (and a large variety of Metra’s many liveries) were on full display for the camera. If you’re a fan of the Chicago Transit Authority “L”, you’ll enjoy the occasional guest appearance of Green Line and Pink Line trains passing overhead, too! The Richard B. Ogilvie Transportation Center is located at 500 West Madison Street in Chicago, Illinois. Originally opened in 1911 by the Chicago and North Western Railway (as Chicago and North Western Terminal,) the station was constructed in a gorgeous Renaissance Revival-style and featured a grand head house containing a spacious waiting room with a barrel-vaulted ceiling. This majestic portion of the site was, unfortunately, razed in 1984 so that a glass-and-steel skyscraper (Accenture Tower) could be built in its place. Despite having lost its stately entrance, OTC remains just as important as ever: it’s the sixth-busiest railroad station in all of North America! It features 8 island platforms serving a total of 16 tracks. The terminal provides service for Metra’s Union Pacific North, Union Pacific Northwest and Union Pacific West commuter rail lines. Connections can be made to CTA bus routes J14, 19, 56, 60, 120, 124, 125, 126, 128, 130, 157 and 192.
