The Sacramento City Council has approved an amendment to the agreement with the Sacramento Zoological Society, allowing the Sacramento Zoo to move forward with plans to expand in Land Park. The expansion would extend beyond the zoo’s current perimeter and add an additional parcel across Land Park Drive, totaling more than 5 acres. Potential plans include new habitats, a public nature experience and immersion zones for species such as river otters, birds or butterflies. The expansion would be the zoo’s first since 1968. Before the project can proceed, the Society must complete a required environmental impact review.
