The Room-to-Work program aims to provide training, structure, and support so participants can build toward long-term employment.
Metro partners with community organizations such as the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) to connect people experiencing homelessness with this opportunity.
Since its launch in 2022, Room-to-Work has hired 87 participants from various backgrounds, including veterans, single parents, and people impacted by the justice system. Many have moved on to other roles at Metro or are on track to do so.
Room-to-Work participants come from various backgrounds, including veterans, individuals from disadvantaged communities, the justice-impacted, and those struggling to find employment.
Michael Romero, a senior accountant who lived in Toluca Lake, had a stable career. When the pandemic hit, his consulting business collapsed. He used his savings, sold his belongings, and eventually lived in his car.
