Welcome to The Journey, a new original series from Metro and WalkGood Productions exploring the people, places, and stories connected through Los Angeles transit. Hosted by Etienne Maurice, each episode follows a cultural figure along the Metro routes that helped shape their path.
In Episode 2, Etienne rides the Metro A and E Lines with actor, filmmaker, and activist Matthew Law. From Pasadena to Little Tokyo to South LA, the two talk about family, finding community in LA, chasing dreams, and the legacy Matthew carries with him every day.
You may know Matthew from Abbot Elementary or Netflix’s Nemesis, but this episode goes deeper than acting. Matthew reflects on moving to LA, learning the city through Metro, and following the same transit paths his grandfather once used after moving to LA from the South in the 1960s.
Along the ride, they stop at places that mean something to Matthew, including South LA Cafe and talk about the people and experiences that helped shape who he is today.
At its core, this episode is about community, perseverance, and the different ways LA can become home.
