French is a Romance language that evolved from the Vulgar Latin spoken in the Roman Empire, specifically from Gallo-Romance in Northern Gaul. It is closely related to other langues d'oïl spoken in northern France and southern Belgium. French has become an official language in 27 countries and is widely spoken across about 50 countries and territories.
Jèrriais, or Jersey Norman French, is a Romance language traditionally spoken by the people of Jersey, part of the Channel Islands. It is closely related to other Norman languages like Guernésiais. Over the past century, Jèrriais usage has declined as English became dominant in education, business, and government. Few people still speak it as their native language, and the number is shrinking as older speakers pass away. However, there are ongoing efforts to preserve the language.
This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
