Rolling Thunder for C64 by USGold, played from tape
As a kid, I always associated the US Gold loader with unreliable loading - I think, in retrospect, this is because I was buying a lot of budget releases on the Kixx label. But not just on the Kixx label, oh no, these were Kixx licensed to Ozisoft in australia, who did the duplication locally. So it was cheap upon cheap upon cheap... honestly, it's amazing the tapes didn't just snap. I actually was pretty well known to the people who ran the computer department at my local k-mart because I bought back about 40% of the games I bought from the budget stand for not loading... after a while, they stopped just believing me and would actually try and load them to make sure I wasn't just bringing them back because the games were shit. Eventually they stopped wasting their time doing that, because, well, about 40% of the time they really just didn't load.
So rolling thunder is one of the games that I bought in those circumstances, but it actually did work, and I enjoyed it then. I'd heard of how terrible it is, and you know, I recognise it's not great, but... look, I had some fun playing this, and as a budget game, it's fine. This is, admittedly, a common story - find on budget is a horror show at full price!
