The metal components are all stainless steel, the handle is hardwood, and the rib itself is made by hand on a wood lathe.
I made the tool initially to reach into pots where my hand wouldn't fit. I quickly realized it was nice to use whenever a steady well controlled rib was needed, allowing both hands to help stabilize the rib.
