I have had the esteemed pleasure of interviewing many different types of METAL musicians in my career; however, I am not referring to musical genres, but more so, the specific type of individual persona. And, throughout that time I have met individuals who stereotypically fit the type cast of a metal musician & on the other hand have crossed paths with some brilliant minds, masterful technicians & true musical architects. Its been my experience that those types of 'metal-men' most intrigue me & when you think of my latest guest in Mr. David Davidson of Revocation he definitely fits the latter. David,....a Berklee College of Music student & jazz aficionado,... first began his extreme metal career in the early 2000's & released his 1st studio album in 2006 with the much acclaimed (& re-issued) 'Empire of the Obscene'. Since that time, he has seen nothing less than a gradual elevation in everything he does graduating from 3 brutal releases with Relapse Records TO a LONG & heralded career with Metal Blade Records,...to include the band's latest & MOST relevant work in 'Netherheaven' (NH). Released on September 9th, 2022, 'Netherheaven' sees the band TRULY taking the helm of their musical direction in this hellish themed gem,...with masterful guitar licks, intricate song structures, ominous melodic interludes & a complexity that is best suited for the sophisticated listener. SO, when the opportunity became available on Friday, September 23rd, 2022 to sit one-on-one with the man at the Come and Take It Live in Austin, I just couldn't say 'no'. In the interview below you will see us discuss the following: the delay in releasing NH, producing for the first time the band's work, the thematical concept of NH, the greatest acclaim the band has ever received, their latest tour (& plans for the Fall), the complex artwork of NH, making videos & much, much more!
