NEW INTERVIEW #27.25: In the annals of heavy rock & metal there are musicians who live FAR beyond their time creating & performing; names like Cliff Burton, Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhodes & Eddie Van Halen are impeccable examples. While the music they created is at the heart of it ALL there are other elements which add to their legend: persona, creativity, singularity & stage presence. AND, in the realm of death metal no name is more REVERED (& respected) than CHUCK SCHULDINER from the Orlando/Tampa metal scene. While his untimely passing in 2001 was a HUGE blow to metal music, I often feel fortunate that his recorded efforts still stand the test of time & that I can ALWAYS return to them; records like, Spiritual Healing (‘90), Human (‘91), Individual Thought Patterns (’93) & Symbolic (’95) to name a few. These are undoubtedly records that MANY of us still jam AND will ALWAYS be part of our repertoire as metal fans. AND, throughout his career (& recordings) Chuck also recruited & cultivated many other future LEGENDS who have gone on to accomplish their respective endeavors & careers; musicians like: Steve DiGiorgio, Terry Butler, James Murphy, Sean Reinert, Bobby Koelbe, Gene Hoglan & Richard Christy to name a notable few. Then in 2012 under the guidance of drummers Gene Hoglan & Sean Reinert the tribute band for Death called DEATH TO ALL was born to HONOR the LEGACY & music of Chuck Schuldiner. While the band initially included a rotating cast of prior Death members, the band has now solidified & is playing sold out shows across the US & world. Their accomplishments are unprecedented because DTA is not only satisfying the hunger of old vets but also garnishing a whole NEW generation of fans who never had an opportunity to see this music performed live. SO, on November 22nd, 2025, when the band hit San Antonio for the ‘Spiritual Healing’ tour I knew I wanted to be there and get ALL the insight on DTA for our extended RMW Familia. In the interview with Gene & Steve below, you will see us discuss the following: the bands formation, honoring the legacy of Death, the blessing of Chuck’s family, their approach to shows/touring, welcoming past members & insight into specific releases.
