There was a time in the history of San Antonio metal when nothing was more important than being part of the 'scene'. It indeed was a different time filled with moments of pure angst, a rich sense of community, a bit of excess & oh yes,...heavy, afluent music that filled our conscience & kept us coming back week after week. It was a time before smart phones, social media & audio files so those attributes played an ever important role in everyone's daily lives. And, in the 90's no persona played a more predominant role in that climate than vocalist (& performer) Terry Anderson! I first learned about Terry during his time fronting seminal, thrash outfit, JUDGE MENTAL,...& later with the EVER popular (& exceptional), LOKEY. But, as you will come to grasp, Terry's work far exceeded his own musical aspirations & extended into components of the subconcious with promotions, music compilations & yes, brotherhood with ALL the scene's various audiences including other bands, fans, club owners & the media. It was a GLORIOUS time & it was Terry's time,...& boy, did he ever shine! SO, on a cold & gloomy Saturday afternoon (on November 19th, 2022) I took the libery to invite Terry over to the MetalWorks Studio to dig DEEP into the man's history & psyche. In the interview below you will hear us discuss the following: his high school days in SA, how he developed his vocals style with his early outfits, Revelations & Thin Ice, why Judge Mental was his favorite time (& why it ended), how the internet changed the scene, the importance of band management, emotional songwriting, the success of Lokey (& 'Beautality'), Step Up Booking, the 'Staring at the Sun' music compilations, finding mental clarity, what lies ahead & SO MUCH MORE!
