Throughout the past 3 decades I have witnessed many Texas regional bands come & go; and while the tragedies of those that have fallen off makes for intriguing fodder the REAL stories lie in those that have persevered, adapted & inherently believed in their own story. You add on top of ALL that a band birthing from a small (& inconsequential) market like Del Rio & that makes the narrative about Semper Acerbus that much more sensational. I've kept a watchful eye on Semper since their humble beginnings in 2016 & since the release of 'Ouroboros' in 2021 have witnessed the band launch into unprecedented territory both as a band & musically. With their latest release, the highly anticipated, 'Following Omens' (released on January 9th, 2026 via Eclipse Records) the band has once again proven that they are, not only one of the TOP melodic metalcore bands in ALL of Texas, but one of the most proficient bands in the entire market. Guitarists, Jaime Vargas & Joe Dragich firmly put their aptitude together & constructed songs for FO that undoubtedly brutalize & trounce any listener,...but have also materialized ardent & dynamic intros, solos & harmonies which keep fans captivated & anxious for whats next. I genuinely believe that with the release of FO there is no stopping Semper from challenging & winning in the national marketplace (and from what I know that is forthcoming).
