At Michigan Tech, NSF CAREER Award-funded scientist and professor Amy Marcarelli and graduate students study how nitrogen cycles in coastal wetlands. A better understanding of wetland functions, in turn, helps humans protect these interface spaces between rivers and lakes, which store and filter sediments and other materials, particularly after flooding.
