Beginning at the western junction with I-270, the route immediately settles into a controlled-access urban expressway environment. Traffic density builds quickly, and the roadway reflects its dual role as both a long-haul freight artery and a daily commuter route. Concrete barriers, wide shoulders, temporary lane shifts, and layered interchanges define the opening miles as the highway presses east toward the city’s core.

As the drive continues, the surroundings transition from outer commercial zones into denser development. Warehouses, distribution centers, and light industrial corridors line portions of the route, underscoring Columbus’s role as a logistics hub.
