After a lightning strike knocked out the router at my parent's house, I figured it was time to replace the Metal Oxide Varistors in my ageing surge protector strip. It was getting on and they wear out over time. Quick walkthrough of how I did it.

Not the most exciting repair. Pretty simple preventative maintenance. Just a couple of pence on parts and a bit of soldering.

Should keep it going for a while and keep it out of landfill anyway...

It is also a good idea to put surge suppression on the cable modem coax...
