Today I look at my old Compaq FP5315 1024x768 XGA monitor which I use as my primary test monitor in the shed.

It started flashing the menu on the screen then locking up during one of my previous videos. The kind of thing you can expect with a failing power supply, or an aging tactile switch.

So, armed with a 50/50 chance, could I guess right first time?

Spoiler: no! I test the PSU and the main filter capacitor and eventually I replace the menu button's tactile switch.
