Not a how to video! If, however, you're looking for a porch skirt repair video by someone who doesn't know much about carpentry and generally avoids such work because he's nothing like patient enough...this is that video!
In fact, prior to making this video, I had no idea what the ventilation areas around the underside of a porch were even called. (I am, however, greatly pleased to find out that "fascia board" was the correct term to use for the board above the porch skirt.)
Evidently there aren't supposed to be leaves under there. However, I didn't find that out until later and I'm not anything like dedicated enough to evict them. It seems likely that they'll biodegrade on their own over time.
It was suggested to me that instead of stripping and repainting the current piece, I could have built a replacement part out of plastic "lumber".
Headphone users are hereby warned that this video gets rather loud while I'm using the circular saw and driving around. (The driving footage was shot because it seemed like an interesting thing to do and included in the video because it seemed like an amusing thing to do.)
I'd like to thank Google for removing yet another useful feature from Youtube. Video annotations will buy the farm (or, if you're watching this in the future, they will have already bought the farm) in early May of 2017. Their reasoning has to do with annotations supposedly never having worked on mobile devices. (Yes! Another reason to despise cellular phones and tablets.) And what a rube you'd be to think that "just removing them" isn't possibly the right answer!
When I say "thank", of course, I actually mean something unprintable.
(I'm also fairly sure there is at least *one* mobile app for Youtube that *does* in fact display video annotations, thus making a lie out of Google's rationale.)
Amazingly, they're not just deleting existing annotations at that time, though I will be waiting for that shoe to drop. I'm also really looking forward to going through all of the videos I've ever uploaded to make sure the annotations work before the darkness falls on being able to edit them. Oh well, perhaps the silver lining here is that Google won't screw around with the font metrics any longer after annotations have died.
