Hey Birt! | Repair attempt: Epson WF-4740 with Scanner Error 100016 @HeyBirt | Uploaded May 2020 | Updated October 2024, 6 hours ago.
In this video we tear down an Epson WF-4740 multifunction inkjet printer to try and fix a persistent scanner error 100016. Epson chose to have the scanner reset after every print so even when not scanning this error would pop up about 50% of the time and was very hard to get to clear.
After discovering that ALL of the outer covers have to come off to remove the scanner/ADF unit my suspicions of a loose scanner belt were proven incorrect, but a mysterious piece of plastic was dislodged from the ADF. Although the home of this broken bit of plastic was not discovered the printer does work fine 98% of the time now and when the error does pop up about once a week it is an easy matter to clear it.
If you are just interested in the fix watch the first and last parts of the video, the middle where I take everything apart turns out to not be important but I left in in just to show how one can get led down the wrong path sometimes.
