Remote ID Update - Why No FRIAs?

In this video I will provide you with an update on the FAA's Remote ID program, with a focus on the FAA Recognized Identification Area, otherwise known as FRIAs.

FRIAs allow community based organizations, such as the Academy of Model Aeronautics, to set us FAA approved airspace boundaries around local club model airfields and fly within that airspace without any electronics, yet still be remote ID compliant.

The AMA started the FRIA application process in early 2023, and to date (this being filmed on June 3, 2023) no FRIA have been approved. The remote ID compliance date is Sept 16, 2023, so there is not much time remaining.

The answer is compliance with the National Environment Policy Act. The compliance should be complete by July 2, 2023, and after that FRIAs should start getting approved.
